Engineered Wood Flooring

Engineered wood flooring is constructed of multiple thin layers of wood that are glued together.  The top layer or “wear layer” of an Engineered floor is the actual hardwood veneer and is available is almost any type of wood.

Installation methods for an Engineered floor include nailing, gluing, and floating.

The quality of the floor is generally determined by the thickness of the wear layer.  Many of the best quality engineered floors have a 4mm wear layer.  This is equal to that of a solid hardwood floor; see photo.

Stability is one of the great advantages of this type of flooring.  If you are looking for a wide plank floor and do not want gapping and/or face nailing, this is the best option for you!

Some engineered floors can be resanded.  This is contingent on how thick the wear layer is the condition the floors are in.
